“Monmouth Coffee has been buying coffee directly from independent farmers, producers and cooperatives since 1978. They travel extensively throughout Africa, Central and South America, Asia and the Pacific to forge personal relationships with the growers, pickers and processors of their coffee.”
Monmouth endeavour to understand and help overcome the challenges each of their growers and exporters face. In Costa Rica, for example, Monmouth has witnessed the evolution in coffee processing methods after water shortages in the 1990’s and where water usage is now severely restricted. Additionally, their expectation of an Ethiopian harvests are tempered by the knowledge that the coffee plants must be grown in the shade of false banana and corn –important sources of food in the region. Owing to this careful research and understanding Monmouth is able to achieve the highest quality coffee, a sustainable market and a fair price.
Like Feng Sushi, Monmouth takes a holistic approach to sustainability and serves organic whole cane sugar from their supplier in Assukkar, Costa Rica as well as organic Jersey whole milk from Jeff Bowles’ farm in Somerset.
Once imported, the beans are warehoused and roasted locally in Bermondsey and delivered daily. All of this passion and knowledge culminates in Monmouth’s superbly blended coffee, rightly considered the best cup of coffee in London.
