for japan: charity auction hotshoe gallery – for japan

POSTED 02 August 2011 IN Spirit Of Japan

Following the devastating tsunami in Japan, Architecture for Humanity is joining forces with the Hotshoe Gallery to host a charity print sale and auction to raise funds to aid long-term reconstruction in Sendai. Architecture for Humanity is a global charity that works with communities around the world to help improve lives, particularly following natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the floods in Pakistan and now the recent tsunami in Japan. Previous projects have included building a Football for Hope Centre in Rwanda following the genocide in 1994, a school in Haiti that incorporates rainwater harvesting and composting latrines, and a gallery and teaching facility in New Orleans.

Following a call for photographic images that evoked and celebrated Japanese culture, 500 photographs were submitted and from these 100 were selected. They will be on display at Hotshoe from the 2nd to the 5th of August when all 100 prints will be auctioned. Starting donations will be £50 and the funds raised will be used for reconstruction projects in Sendai that include an orphanage, an art and music therapy centre and an ‘urban acupuncture’ initiative.

Feng Sushi is delighted to be able to show its support for this worthy project by donating 1,000 sushi for the auction event on the 5th of August.
